NOSE BLEEDS

NOSE BLEEDS

Nosebleeds, also known as epistaxis, occur when blood vessels within the nasal passages rupture, leading to bleeding from the nostrils. They can result from various factors, such as dry air, nose picking, trauma, or underlying medical conditions like nasal allergies, sinus infections, or blood clotting disorders.

Nosebleeds can be anterior (from the front of the nose) or posterior (from the back), with the former being more common and often caused by minor irritations. Posterior nosebleeds are less common but can be more concerning, especially in older individuals.

Most nosebleeds can be managed at home by pinching the nostrils and leaning forward slightly to reduce blood flow. Applying a cold compress and using a saline nasal spray can also help. However, frequent or severe nosebleeds, especially if accompanied by other symptoms like dizziness or difficulty breathing, should be evaluated by a medical professional. In certain cases, cauterization, nasal packing, or addressing underlying conditions might be necessary for effective management.
